The competition was hosted by the material class Teaching Steering Committee of theMinistry of Education and hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The national final of the Tenth National Metallographic Skills Competition for College Students was held at Huo Yingdong Sports Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University from October 8 to 14. A total of 1,109 contestants from more than 370 universities including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University,University of Science and Technology of China and Central South University participated in the final. After four days of intense competition, TangHaiping, a student in the program of material forming and control engineering2019 in our university, won the first national individual prize. Zhu Haifan and Wang Bin won the second and third individual prizes respectively, and the team won the third group prize. Teachers Wang Li and Liu Baogang won the title of "Excellent Instructor". Teachers and students of School of Energy and Electromechanical Engineering have made great achievements in this competition again and won honors for the university.

The National College Students' Metallographic Skills Competition entered the national general college students' academic competition list in 2020, and it iscurrently an event with the highest specification, the soundest system, the widest coverage and the greatest influence in material class. The competition adopts the form of competition instead of training, and devotes itself to thepurpose of "promoting education, reform and learning by competition".It focuses on improving the ability of material class college students tointegrate theory with practice, cultivating the spirit of "great countrycraftsman" in the new era, and at the same time providing a practical platform for teachers and students of materials science in colleges andu niversities all over the country to communicate and learn with each other.

Ouruniversity has always attached importance to the improvement of the level of practical teaching and the cultivation of students' practical hands-on ability.Since 2017, with the strong support of the university's Academic Affairs Officeand the efforts of teachers and students from the School of Energy and Electromechanical Engineering, the major of Materials Forming and Control Engineering has actively organized students to participate in five national competitions of metallurgical skills, forming a good selection mechanism andachieving good results in previous competitions. As a first-class professional construction point in Hunan Province, the discipline of Materials Forming and Control Engineering pays special attention to the cultivation of students' engineering practice and innovation ability, actively organizes and guides students to participate in various discipline competitions, and strengthens the exchange with other universities, so as to lay a solid foundation for the innovative training mode of compound senior talents and improve students' practical ability.
